The word "Bhakti" (faith, devotion) is derived from 'Bhaj Sevayam ('भज सेवायाम') root which means Seva (service). The end result of Seva is 'Love', which in turn is the most exalted medium to attain devotion. As the completwness of a tree is upon bearing fruits, the same way completeness of devotion is in having profound Love in God. Having undivided, exclusive Love towards God is what devotion is.
भक्ति के रंग सुरंग है, तन मन फूल गुलाब !
भीतर बाहर भीनई, सूख शान्ति मय आब !!
सुरती निरंतर शब्द में, लगन मनन रह जोय !
और दृश्य भासे नहीं, भक्ति कहावे सोय !!
निर्मल गंगा भक्ति की, बह उर अंतर माहिं !
प्रेम घाट मज्जन करे, त्रिविध ताप नशि जाहिं !!
